Council votes 5-0 for a contemporary theme for innovative new community center

Congratulations to the City of Burlingame for taking the next big step towards a new community center!

On Monday, July 2, City Council voted unanimously on a contemporary “pavilions” scheme for the project – seen as creating stronger indoor-outdoor connections with Washington Park, better opportunities for rooftop solar, and the right expression for community-spanning recreation services.

The decision followed close consideration and extensive community engagement on options and reflection on how the city would take the next step in its civic presence. The San Mateo Daily Journal covered various perspectives that led to the unanimous decision their decision.

The 37,000 SF project will replace an aging recreation center at its current site. Group 4’s next steps include articulation of the design towards a full bid set. The new center is expected to break ground in early 2020.
