Elk Grove Library
8900 Elk Grove Boulevard, Elk Grove, CA 95624
In response to the community’s increasing demand for library services, the City of Elk Grove commissioned Group 4 to design the transformation of a commercial office building into a new library in the Old Town district. Group 4 designed a bold interior design concept that not only supports the Sacramento Public Library’s innovative and efficient service model, but also inspires and delights community members.
Separate children’s and teen areas are provided in addition to adult browsing, work, and quiet reading areas. Convenient self-service features such as open holds shelves and express checkout stations allow customers to get in and out of the library quickly if needed, while attractive displays of new and popular materials as well as a variety of comfortable seating options tempt them to linger. Exterior book drops deposit returned materials directly into the staff room, speeding the processing of returned items and making them available to the public more quickly. The meeting room is designed to be flexible and supports library, civic, and community programs and events. The new library, which targets Silver certification through the LEED-CI program, opened to the public in early 2009.
