More than 200 seniors participated in the planning and design of the Pittsburg Senior and Community Center. The resulting design reflects and celebrates community values as well as a commitment to the service and comfort of Pittsburg’s seniors. Simple forms, varying space heights and sloping ceilings create a dynamic feel, while copious amounts of glazing on the north and east ends fill the center with light during the day. The center’s transparency invites and encourages participation by community members of all ages.

The center’s simple layout makes wayfinding easy and minimizes travel distance between program areas. At the heart of the center is the multipurpose meeting hall, which accommodates a wide variety of activities. The lobby doubles as both a lounge and a prefunction space for the meeting hall. Other program areas include arts and crafts space, a technology lab, and a game room. All activity areas are visible from the central welcoming desk.
