Concord Senior Citizens Center
2727 Parkside Circle, Concord, CA 94519

Group 4 completed the needs study that led to the decision to build a new Concord Senior Citizens Center rather than renovate the small, outdated former building. Strong leadership and skillful management allowed the project to progress quickly into design.

The floor plan is a simple L shape with two major circulation axes that promote easy wayfinding. At the intersection of the circulation axes is a lounge with an oversized fireplace that serves as a warming and welcoming focal point. This lounge, in the heart of the building, provides a comfortable space for informal social interaction and evokes a feeling of home. This area also includes a central welcoming desk staffed by volunteers who have visual access to all activity room doors and building entries.
