Southwest Santa Rosa Regional Library, Community, and Aquatics Center
Santa Rosa, CA

The City of Santa Rosa and the Sonoma County Library are working in partnership to develop a joint library and community recreation/aquatics center in Southwest Community Park, a heavily-used and much-valued resource in the heart of this diverse community. The partnership between the City and the Library was developed in response to the recommendations of the Sonoma County Library Facilities Master Plan, which recommended the addition of a new library for the currently underserved southwest Santa Rosa community.

Group 4 was commissioned to conduct a feasibility study and park master plan for the project, and subsequently to prepare a needs assessment, building program, and schematic design for the new complex, which will include aquatics facilities as well as a library and community center. The new library will feature a computer lab, meeting space, group study rooms, and a wide variety of print and audiovisual collection materials. The community center will offer a large multipurpose room, classrooms, and child care facilities as well as a full-size gymnasium. Major site features are planned to include sports fields, children’s play areas, and expanded picnic facilities. The complex is also planned for a strong connection with the adjacent elementary school.
